Why is creating skills categories important for the learning space?
-
It makes it easier for learners to filter and search for learning content. 🔍
-
It lets learners know exactly which skill they're learning. 🤓
-
It will enable course creators to add a skill category to their course. 👩🏫
In this article we're going to answer:
1. How do I add a skill?
Add skills to organise the catalogue into skill-based segments. 📚
Step 1: Go to the 'I organise' interface and the 'Skills' page. On this page, you can find the skills centre – an overview of all skills and topics of your learning space.
Step 2: Click on 'Create' in the upper right corner.

Step 3: Fill in the title of the skill in French, English, and/or Dutch.

Step 4: Toggle on 'Category' if you want this skill to be displayed as a category in the learning space.
Step 5: Toggle off 'Approval' if you don't need this skill to be approved by another trainer.

Step 6: If you wish to relate this skill to other skills then click on 'Yes' in the 'Suggest alternative field' and select one or more alternative skills.
The learners will get your skill suggested even when searching for an alternative skill. In this way, the learner gets related or similar learning content offered. 😉
Step 7: Select 'Validate' to add your skill to the learning space.

👉 Good to know: Check the box 'Create another skill' to directly open a new modal to create a new skill, while your current skill gets saved automatically.

Edit the title of a skill or its category and approval status. ✅
Step 1: Go to the 'I organise' interface and the 'Skills' page.
Step 2: Click on the field with the skill you want to edit.

On this page, you get an overview of this skill. You can see how many resources (courses, learning paths, and external contents) are linked with this skill, who created and validated it.
Step 3: Change the title of the skill by clicking into the three languages field: French, English, and/or Dutch.
Step 4: Toggle on/off 'Category' if you want this skill to be displayed/not to be displayed as a category in the learning space.
Step 5: Toggle on/off 'Approval' if you want to approve/disapprove this skill.
Your changes are saved automatically.

3. How do I remove a skill?
Suggest an alternative skill to your course creators. They will not be able to use this skill, but you can suggest another one as a replacement.
Follow step 1 & 2 from above.
Step 3: Click on the pen icon in the 'Use' field and select 'Forbid'.

A modal will open up asking you if you'd like to replace the current skill with an alternative skill.
Step 4: Click 'Yes' and select or search for a new alternative skill. Resources that are linked to this skill would be linked to the new alternative skill.

OR
Click 'No' if you just want to remove the skill and not find a replacing skill. Resources won't have this skill linked to them anymore.
Step 5: Select 'Validate' to save your changes.
